  • Research shows that the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and client is one of the largest contributors to a client achieving their therapeutic goals.

Therapy is a very vulnerable space where you share your thoughts, feelings, experiences and needs. It is vital that you will need to feel emotionally safe by being heard, understood and seen by your therapist. If you don’t feel safe with your therapist or even just don’t like how they interact with you, that decreases the chances of moving towards the goals you are wanting to achieve.

It is important to note, that due to the nature of therapy, you will not ALWAYS like your therapist, and you are not supposed to.

    Why is that?

It is because a therapist’s job is to ask questions, challenge beliefs about yourself, others as well as the world, reflect observations of client’s behaviors and bring awareness to the interactions clients have with others that are contributing to the discontent that led to therapy starting. This can feel extremely uncomfortable which often leads to the natural response of anger and dislike. This does not mean it is no longer a good fit as much as it means it is providing a space to work through this discomfort by having a conversation with your therapist on what it was like to hear what was shared or asked.

  • When you schedule a consultation, please reach out at least 24 hours in advance if you are no longer interested in keeping that appointment.
