About Katie Gilly, MA, LMFT
Hi! I am so glad you are here as I know how hard that first step into finding a therapist can be. Let me introduce myself: I am Katie (she, her, hers, herself). I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist here in Colorado as well as in Illinois.
Since childhood, I have found myself drawn to understanding people and the many variations of relationships. In college, I became the go-to person in the dorm to ask the hard questions that so many weren't taught growing up. I provided a space of acceptance and understanding as others explored relationship dynamics, gender, and sexuality.
After working at Chicago Lakeshore Hospital and a therapeutic residential school, I began to understand that an individual isn't the problem. It is the system they are part of that is causing the difficulties in their life, whether it be romantic relationships, family, work, or society. This realization is what led me to pursue my Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy at Syracuse University. At Syracuse, I deepened my passion of helping others while building my understanding of people, relationship dynamics, gender and cultural identity as well as sex and sexuality.
As your therapist, I focus on building a safe space that allows you to uncover your relationship needs as well as how to live more authentically. I show up as my authentic self in sessions and use humor as a way to open individuals up to new ways of thinking and behaving. I believe that the more work the client does in between sessions is what determines the success they see with therapy. Each session is tailored to the needs of all clients. I utilize a variety of modalities to provide a path of growth that will help meet therapeutic goals.
I am a Kink, poly-friendly and LGBTQ+ affirmative therapist. I have completed a 4 day externship in Emotional Focused Therapy and a 3 day certification in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I am a certified PREPARE/ENRICH practitioner. I am currently enrolled in a post graduate program focused on Sex Therapy.
Taking the next step and setting up an initial session can be overwhelming. I hope that learning about me has provided some guidance on if I am the right fit for you. I look forward to talking and moving you forward towards the life and relationship you want.
